Thiago Barros - Iris by Starck

I had the opportunity to collaborate with TEF Studio and Insight Out Studio on Iris by Starck. The film unveils Philippe Starck’s innovative eyewear design, brought to life through an elegant and immersive visual narrative.

My contribution focused on the animation of the sphere as it moves across the product, a subtle addition designed to evoke a tactile sensation, bringing a sense of movement, energy, and connection to the piece.

Animating this sequence required extensive testing to find the rhythm that best matched the tone of the film. I started with a heavier, more lifelike motion to emphasize presence, but gradually transitioned toward something softer and more fluid, a deliberate shift to express the product’s efficiency, where even the slightest touch could activate the interface. To explore the behavior of the sphere, I developed multiple test animations and motion studies, experimenting with how it should react to surfaces and light. These explorations helped define the personality of the movement. Subtle, but intentional.

Finding balance between precision and lightness, softness and metal, organic motion and product structure meant shaping each curve, acceleration, and pause with care — all to reflect the harmony at the heart of Starck’s design.

This project was a real pleasure to be part of, and it’s inspiring to see it reach Stash’s permanent collection, celebrating the collaboration between Insight Out, TEF Studio, and Philippe Starck himself.
